Each child is a unique individual who is entitled to a supportive, caring, and encouraging learning community, one in which they can grow and mature emotionally, intellectually and socially. It is my passion as a educator to help students reach their fullest potential and beyond in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports higher level thinking, and invites a creative mind. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide or coach, (2) allowing the child's curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all peers and teachers.

It is a teacher’s role to guide and continuously learn new strategies, to differentiate in the classroom and continually assess the student’s in a variety of ways. The teacher needs to provide access to information, rather than acting as the primary source of information. This gives students the opportunity to discover knowledge on their own and practice different skills in authentic situations. Providing students access to differentiated activities, ones that are appealing to different learning styles. Self-discovery is having the opportunity to study things that are meaningful and relevant to one's life and interests. A teacher needs to be flexible in their teaching and continuously grow and learn. Education is always changing; it is a teacher's responsibility to remain educated on new techniques and ideas, in order to be an effective teacher.
